Autumn Lab sessions - Finds Processing from the Haw Hill Summer Dig - supervised by Chloe Krakow

​Wednesday 22nd October - Talk by Naomi Field about the previous archaeological dig at the Stow Church site.  Naomi has conducted archaeological work, including an excavation at Stow Church in the nave, with a publication from 1984 listed in the Archaeological Data Service.  She is also a Senior Archaeological Consultant at Prospect Archaeology Ltd and was the Director of Lindsey Archaeological Services.

​​Wednesdays 3rd September and 1st October Visits to the Lincolnshire Heritage Environment Record (LHER), maintained by Lincolnshire County Council and based in Lincoln.  The LHER has a duty to maintain information archives in Lincolnshire.​

​Talk by Richard Watts, who manages the database of 75,000 records of all known archaeological and historic sites in Lincolnshire.  The HER will be an invaluable source of information for our projects at Stow and Haw Hill.

Summer 2025 - Launch of Research Project to support the excavation at Haw Hill.  The group is liaising with BGU to create an opportunity for group members to participate in research relating to the mediaeval hospital site.

Summer 2025 - Launch of Research Project to support the church at Stow.  The group is liaising with BGU to create an opportunity for group members to participate in research relating to the Minster.  The committee visited the church and met with David, the churchwarden, who has an amazing knowledge of the history of the church with a view to understanding what he would like to achieve.  Martin Huggon was at the meeting too, to discuss what BGU can offer.

 

​Wednesday June 4th 2025 - First meeting of Stow Minster Research Group.  An initial meeting to discuss and plan the research activities. 

 

Wednesday May 28th 2025 - Members visit to Stow Church for a guided tour.  This was to gain an insight into this fascinating building and its history  before the project begins.  Address: St Mary's Church, 3 Church Road, Stow  LN1 2DE.

26th March 2025 - Presentation by Dr Craig Spence member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists - Space Archaeology.  Senior Lecturer at BGU, Craig's current research interests include early modern urban and cultural history.  However on this occasion he will be talking about his interest in Off-World Archaeology.

Wednesday 12th March 2025 - Finds Drawing Workshop - Charlotte will be leading this practical session.

​

Tuesday 11th March 2025, Presentation by Dr Julian Richards FSA to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Archaeology at BGU - 'Stonehenge - Old Rocks, new theories'.  This talk will explore the big questions: How was it built, who built it and perhaps the most intriguing - why?  Further details and tickets on the BGU website.

Wednesday, 26th February 2025 - Research methods for LAG members  - Dr Martin Huggon,  Martin will lead a workshop on research for the Haw Hill Excavation.

Wednesday, 5th February 2025 - The Iron Age and Roman archaeology of Potters Hill, Norton Disney - talk by Bob Garlant from Norton Disney History and Archaeology Group, on the excavation which uncovered the remarkable and rare Roman Dodecahedron, as seen recently on 'Digging for Britain'.

Wednesday, 11th December 2024 - Christmas Event -   Dr Michael Jones, Honorary Associate Professor of Archaeology and Lincoln's former City Archaeologist will be giving a talk about his recently published book ​Digging Lincoln - An Archaeological Memoir  (Archaeopress) a fascinating fifty year insight and uniquely personal account of the city of Lincoln's rich archaeology and how it was recorded from the time of the early antiquaries through to the commercially funded professional teams of today.

Wednesday, 20th November 2024 - Processing and Identifying Ceramics - hands-on workshop led by Time Team's medieval ceramic specialist Jane Young. ​​

Wednesday, 6th November  - Metal Detecting Theory and Practise - workshop led by Karen Thompson.

Wednesday, 30th October 2024  - Haw Hill and Medieval Hospital Sites, a talk by Director of the BGU Field School, Dr Martin Huggon.
